The Forward partnership met on the 16th and 17th of April 2013 at the Monika Naiset offices in Helsinki (Finland).
Partners shared information about the pilot test experiences of the Forward materials in Austria, Finland, Italy, Lithuania, Romania and Spain with groups of migrant women.
A total of 150 migrant women from Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia were involved in the pilot tests of the six partner countries. Results confirm the usability of the Forward methodology for the empowerment of migrant women. Questionnaires filled in by participants and trainers, as well as observation, confirm that working from a competence-based methodology allows women to re-construct their experiences giving value to them and putting a name to the abilities they have developed through several experiences. In this way, competences developed in non-formal or informal contexts such as at home or during the migration process were addressed and recognised.
On the basis of results of pilot tests, partners discussed the elements that will be revised in the final versions of the Forward handbook and toolbox in English, and distributed the tasks for the revision.
The meeting gave also the opportunity to discuss the proposal and work plan for the capacity building workshops for trainers on the Forward methodology and tools to be carried out in each country, which will involve professionals working with migrant women in training contexts, occupational integration programmes and community intervention programmes, among others.
